Outside, clothes are drying in the wind. Inside, Machtat, a group of women who play music at traditional weddings in Tunisia, are singing, clapping and drumming. The film closely follows Fatma and her two daughters Najeh and Waffeh who make a living as wedding singers but at the same time struggle with the patriarchal structures of marriage. Michael Kohl
Biography
Tunisian-French director Sonia Ben Slama was already making short documentary films during her studies in Paris – including for the Louvre Museum. Her first feature-length documentary TOUT EST ÉCRIT was released in 2015.
