Bay and Tam have never properly learnt German. The married couple stay in close contact with their Vietnamese family online. As they grow older, they ask themselves whether they want to live in Germany, where their first grandchild is about to come into the world, or in Vietnam?

Hien Mai
Hien Mai works interdisciplinary in the fields of film and art. After studying art history and art education in Frankfurt am Main and Madrid, she worked as an artist liaison for Ai Weiwei. She currently works at Deutsches Filminstitut & Film Museum in Frankfurt a.M and in various intercultural projects.
Tim Ellrich
Tim Ellrich studies Scenic Directing at Filmakademie Baden-Württemberg. Previously he studied Philosophy and Theater, film and media studies in Vienna. His films were screened at over 400 international festivals and won numerous awards. MY VIETNAM had its world premiere at Hot Docs in Toronto.
