The Encounters South African International Documentary Festival, one of the oldest film festivals on the African continent and the first documentary festival there, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year, will partner with the Ladima Foundation for the third time in 2023 to present the Adiaha Award, which honours outstanding documentary achievements by African female filmmakers.

There has already been a lively exchange and partnership between our two festivals since 2017. We are very pleased that DOK.fest München is a proud partner of the Adiaha Award this year through the Africa focus DOK.network Africa.

Of the seven nominated films, Cameroonian director Cyrielle Raingou and her film LE SPECTRE DE BOKO HARAM were chosen as this year's winner last weekend – our heartfelt congratulations!

We look forward to welcoming the director to DOK.fest München 2024 with an accreditation as well as participation in the programme of our industry platform DOK.forum Marketplace. Cyrielle Raingou won one of our main competitions with her film in May at DOK.fest München 2023 with the VIKTOR DOK.horizonte Competition – Cinema of Urgency.

The Ladima Foundation, the second partner of the Adiaha Award, is a Pan-African non-profit organisation that supports, trains and advises women* in the film, television and content industry through numerous initiatives.
