NEXTUS – Learning by documentaries
Nextus is a program for children, teenagers and young adults. Numerous award-winning international documentaries offer pupils a horizon-expanding view of world history and current world events. The content is suitable for teaching at grammar schools, secondary schools, technical and vocational colleges and universities. Nextus has continuously expanded since 2020. The initiating partners - DocsBarcelona, DOK.education Munich and the Thessaloniki International Film Festival - were joined in 2024 by IndieLisboa, the Sottodiciotto Film Festival and MakeDOX Skopje. Over 10,000 teachers across Europe now use the innovative platform in their lessons.
Nextus enables teachers to work with curated documentaries in an activity-oriented way. Films, film clips, exercises and teaching materials can be used to enrich subject lessons or address cross-curricular issues. The content of the platform is based on the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals and key curriculum content. The resources provided help to make theoretical concepts emotionally tangible through real people and true stories. Numerous award-winning international documentaries offer students a broadening view of world history and current world events. The content is suitable for teaching in high schools, secondary schools, technical and vocational colleges, out-of-school educational institutions and universities.
All films are in the original language and subtitled in a range of languages. The accompanying educational material is available in English, German, Spanish, Catalan, Italian, Portuguese, Greek and Macedonian. This makes nextus an excellent supplement for international classes and foreign language teaching.
