Youth protection and age ratings

Thanks to the cooperation with the Oberste Landesjugendbehörde and the Bayerische Mediengutachterausschuss, DOK.fest München also provides access to documentary films for young people - taking into account the youth protection laws

Every year in May, DOK.fest München presents around 110 international documentary films at almost 20 venues in Munich's city centre - impressive, artistically designed films that deal with socially relevant topics, open up new perspectives and inspire reflection. With the additional offer of the DOK.education programme and the DOK.4teens films, we want to give young people in particular access to these films, because we appreciate their special value for education, empathy and critical thinking.

Many of the films in the festival programme deal with complex or sensitive topics - and do not have a regular age rating. In order to comply with legal requirements, they are generally only shown from the age of 18. The protection of young viewers is a key concern for us: We attach great importance to a careful examination of the content and to only making films accessible as part of our educational programme that can also be shown responsibly from a youth protection perspective.

We are therefore grateful for the close and professionally sound cooperation with the Oberste Landesjugendbehörde (OLJB) and the Bayerische Mediengutachterausschuss (BMGA) and other partner institutions, which support us reliably and with great commitment in the legal assessment of films for the youth. Thanks to temporary, event-related age ratings, we can also make films without a regular FSK rating accessible to young viewers as part of educational programmes - legally compliant, responsibly and with great respect for the content and the young audience.
